Cursing Through Someone Else’s Mouth: Faizi’s Lampoon of Veysi

Kafzade Abdülhay Çelebi (1589–1621), known under the pen name Faizi is, in spite of his prolificacy, an often-ignored figure modern literary historiography. Though oeuvre has been studied and short biographies him have written more than once about main lines life, a closer look at 17th-century primary sources reveal that some poems correspondence, including biographical information, are unstudied can still be found various manuscripts. Accordingly, aims this paper threefold: firstly, to give annotated translation as yet unpublished poem by which parodies Veysi (1561–1628), renowned Ottoman poet man letters; second, survey through Faizi’s period culture during certain style satire flourished within narrow milieu; finally, interpret ‘ilmiyye early 17th century.
